Using Ditto?
Thursday, June 18th, 2009Alex Bilmes piece in GQ Magazine where he suggests the fashion establishment’s recent love affair with Beth Ditto has a lot to do with their desire not to appear to be ‘body fascist’. True or not, I don’t think Ditto’s going to be crying a river over it.
Top People in Fashion
Wednesday, May 20th, 2009I’ve just been over at Handbag.com — one of our favourite fashion/beauty/celebrity news sites — reading their list of the top 10 behind-the-scenes people in fashion.
Among the list are casting agents, creative directors and sound engineers, including this man:
…who we think looks a bit like Johnny Vegas but who is actually Michel Gaubert, a French sound engineer and a big shot at fashion shows. Apparently, he also used to date Kate Moss, which we find a little strange for some reason.
This guy is Alexandre de Betak, another Frenchman and one of the top ‘catwalk’ producers. We like that he does things like having angels hanging from the rafters (models at one of the fashion shows that he was working on).
This is the ‘cool hunter’ extraordinaire Tommy Ton and we find him the most interesting of all, mostly because we can’t work out how he finds enough time in a day to cover all the bases. Ton’s the fashion blogger at Jak & Jil, which is the next Big Thing and “the essential viewing with the entire global fashion industry”.
There’s not many women in the Top Ten People in Fashion but that’s no big surprise, as women seem to be seen mostly as consumers of fashion or as clotheshorses — as opposed to being movers and shakers.
