We have a category in the store called Broken. It will be full of old things which are not fully whole or which were once a part of something else. Some of these could be headed for the tip but they should not be there because they are still beautiful or useful in some way. This broken antique doll is a little strange and a bit rusty but has its own strange beauty.

We have many little things in the Miscellany section which were also once pieces of bigger things. We found these old handles on an old broken chest of drawers that someone was taken to be dumped. We just got them off in time:
They are not perfect but quite lovely and worth saving:
We reckon they are 1920’s/1930’s at the latest.
This old handle is a lot older:
We found it in a box of old things in a Paris flea market. There are lots of massive pieces of antique furniture there and we think it came of one of these types of furniture — an old dresser, perhaps.
Today was a time for making things:
We mainly worked on the sweet little metal and fabric bracelets that are surprisingly time-comsuming and fiddly to make but are worth it in the end:
Wee Birdie Bracelet
It is just taking ages to get everything photographed — as we have so mant items:
In the meantime — see our Tumblr blog — and our Strange Garden blog (not really shop-related, just random things of interest.
It has been a long time coming but the store is finally set to re-open early in the new year. We have hundreds of items to photograph and get online, so will be working flat-out to have everything ready for mid-January.
We’re concentrating on what we do best — strange and quirky little vintage oddities and curiosities, together with our unique ultra-cute cotton and linen Keepies and headbands.
Another great image from the 1920’s. I love everything about this photograph: the colours, the clothes, that old postbox…
